What is a Guardian Angel

A Guardian Angel is another Timebank member who has taken on the task of supporting another member by being able to manage the other member's account in Community Weaver. The Guardian Angel assigned to manage the account of another, managed member will be able to act as that member. The Guardian Angel logs into Community Weaver with their own account (their own email and password) and is given special permissions to "become" the managed member.


A Guardian Angel can be assigned to manage / support any other individual or organizational member of the timebank. The Guardian Angel can be assigned to manage any regular account. A Guardian Angel is REQUIRED for a member's account if they do not have an email address. For example, if they:

  • do not have an email address OR
  • do not have Internet access OR
  • cannot use a computer (smart phone or tablet).


A Guardian Angel can also be used by parents or legal guardians of minors or others to oversee the minor's Community Weaver activity.


Guardian Angel Notifications

If the managed member has an email address then that email address will also receive the notifications, as well as a copy being sent to the Guardian Angel.

If the managed member has NO email address, then only the Guardian Angel will receive a copy of the notification. In this case, it is the responsibility of the Guardian angel to inform the member (managed account) about the content of the notifications.

The Guardian angel does not need to log into the managed account to see the GA notifications. In fact, they will only be seen in the GA's email inbox.


The Guardian Angel will receive an email notification whenever the managed member's account:
  • Posts, edits or deletes an offer or request.
  • Records, edits or deletes an exchange.
  • Sends a message to other members in the CW message system.
The Guardian Angel will receive an email notification whenever the managed member would have received a notification or a broadcast email from CW:

The Guardian Angel will receive these email notifications at the frequency that the managed member has chosen unless the Guardian Angel has chosen another frequency for this managed account.


Guardian Angel Access

  • The Guardian Angel is given special access to the managed account so that they can carry out all the member tasks for the member.
  • If the managed member logs into Community Weaver (only possible if they have an email address) they will see a note that they have a Guardian Angel.

If the Guardian Angel want to edit the profile, post offers, requests, or record an exchange for the managed account, the GA will have to use the "become" feature to act as that member.


HOW DOES IT WORK?

  • The Guardian Angel (GA) logs into their own Community Weaver account.
  • For each of the members that are mentored / managed by a Guardian Angel, the Guardian Angel (GA), can "become" that member so that the GA can act as the mentored member.
  • Guardian Angels will have an additional icon in their menu at the top of the website, the silhouette of a person's head. Clicking on that icon will show them a list of all the accounts for which they are a Guardian Angel. These are also called managed accounts. Click on the name of the member to go to that member.
  • When the GA has "become" another member, the GA will see everything as that member. All actions that the GA does (post offers or requests, record exchanges, send or reply to messages, etc.) will be done as the mentored member. Basically the GA will be acting as that member.
  • To return to your own account, the GA goes to the communication bar, just under the menu bar and click on on the "Return to <your account name>" link to return their own account.


NOTE' Look at the menu bar to see the name of the account that is active> If it is your name, your are in your account. If if is the name of the managed account, then you are acting as that member.


TIP: If you have "become" another member, return to your own account before trying to "become" another member.


Members Managed by a Guardian Angel

  • If the managed member does not have an email address, then they will not be able to log into CW and the Guardian Angel will have to do everything for that member.
  • If the managed member does have an email address, then they will be able to log into CW. After they login in they will see the name of their Guardian angel in the communication bar just under the menu bar (at the top of the web page).


Assigning / Removing a Guardian Angel

A Member Coordinator or an Admin coordinator can assign a member to a Guardian Angel:

  1. Go to a member's profile (the member to be managed by the Guardian angel)
  2. Open the section "Coordinator Settings" (on the lower left of the profile page)
  3. Under Guardian Angel choose the member (from the drop down box) who will be the Guardian Angel for this account
  4. Choose the preference for the notification frequency of the notifications to the Guardian Angel.

A Member Coordinator or an Admin coordinator can remove the Guardian Angel from a managed member's account:

  1. Go to the managed member's profile
  2. Open the section "Coordinator Settings" (on the lower left of the profile page)
  3. Under Guardian Angel choose "no one" (the first line in the drop down box list)


Please note that:

  • Any member can be a Guardian Angel for one or more members.
  • Each member can have only one Guardian Angel.
  • A member who has been assigned to be a Guardian Angel cannot be managed by another member.
